What We Loved About the Disney Wish with Small Kids
After sharing some of the challenges of sailing the Disney Wish with two preschoolers, it only feels fair to tell you what we absolutely loved. Because make no mistake: Disney knows families, and there were so many thoughtful touches that made our trip easier, smoother, and more enjoyable.
If you’re cruising with little ones, here are the highlights that stood out to us.
Thoughtful Stateroom Amenities
I was genuinely impressed by how family-ready our stateroom was. We requested a pack-and-play for our youngest, and it was waiting in the room when we arrived. The stateroom host also offered bed bumpers, which instantly turned the sofa bed into a safe, cozy sleep space for our 4-year-old.
And here’s the one that surprised me most: a diaper genie. If you’ve ever traveled with diapers, you know how quickly a hotel room (or in this case, a cruise cabin) can start to smell. Having a place to toss them without worry? Priceless. These are the little things that told me Disney really understands what families need.
The Nicest Laundry Room at Sea
I never thought I’d call a laundromat a vacation highlight, but here we are. The self-service laundry room on the Wish was bright, spotless, and easy to use—truly the nicest I’ve ever seen on a ship.
Prices were reasonable, too: $3.50 per wash or dry cycle, $1.50 for detergent. Machines were app-connected, so I could start a load, walk away, and get a notification when it was done. Mid-trip laundry meant we could pack lighter (a win when you’re hauling clothes for four people) and go home with fewer dirty clothes.
Kid-Friendly Dining Done Right
One of the things I worried about was whether our picky eaters would find food they actually liked. I shouldn’t have. Every restaurant we visited offered plentiful and flexible kid options—from chicken tenders and mac & cheese to fresh fruit and simple sides. Servers were quick to bring food out for the kids first, which made meals so much less stressful.
Even better, they never blinked at requests for substitutions or tweaks. Disney’s dining staff truly goes above and beyond to keep kids (and parents) happy at the table.
Why These Details Matter
When you’re traveling with small kids, the little conveniences add up in a big way. Having a pack-and-play and diaper genie waiting for us, being able to toss in a load of laundry mid-cruise, and knowing the kids would find something to eat every night—those were the things that kept our trip running smoothly.
Disney may not have playgrounds onboard, but the family-focused touches they do offer made the Wish feel like a ship designed with us in mind.
